Nolah is an online only retailer selling it’s bed-in-a-box directly to the consumers. With a view of eliminating outdated memory foam and latex, they created a proprietary foam, Nolah AirFoam™. Nolah claims that this foam sleeps cooler than memory foam, it is more durable than latex, and it offers 4x better pressure relief. It comes in two variants which are Nolah Original 10″ and Nolah Signature 12″. But is it really better than memory foam? Check out my full review to know more about Nolah mattress.

Construction

Nolah Original 10″

The first layer is made up of 2 inches of proprietary Nolah AirFoam™. This material doesn’t retain body’s heat and as a result it sleeps cooler than memory foam, while still providing the contouring feel of traditional memory foam.

The second layer is a 1 inch support layer made up of high-resilience foam. Just like a traditional latex foam, this layer offers bounce and responsiveness to the mattress but it is claimed to be stronger and more durable than traditional latex.

The third layer is 7 inches of U.S made high density foam which acts as a foundation of the mattress and also provides the shape of it. It comes with luxurious viscose cover which is known to wick away moisture and keep the mattress cooler through out the night.

Nolah Signature 12″

The first layer is made up of 2.5 inches of Nolah’s proprietary Nolah AirFoam™. It is half an inch thicker than the Nolah Original 10″ and again, it doesn’t retain heat and lets you sleep cooler through out the night. This layer also provides 4x more pressure relief than traditional memory foam mattresses.

The second layer is a 1.5 inches of high-resilience foam. While this offers bounce and responsiveness to the mattress, it also offers perfect balance of soft and firm which is good for all sleeping positions.

The third layer is made up of 8 inches of ultra-grade core foundation foam. It acts as a strong and supportive base of the mattress which can withstand even the most extreme conditions. It also provides shape to the mattress.

The fourth layer is made up of 1 inch firm Nolah AirFoam™. This is a flippable mattress which offers you two firmness options in one. You can just flip the mattress with the firmer layer on top if you prefer better support and pressure relief. This side is especially ideal for stomach sleepers.

Firmness

Firmness of a mattress cannot be described accurately as it highly depends upon the weight distribution and personal preferences of every individual. The Nolah Original 10″ sits at 5-6 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest), which places this mattress in the medium firm category. Though this mattress is  considered good for any sleeping position, it is rated as one of the best mattress for side sleepers by many experts. It contours to the body’s curves while sleeping on the side and also provides support and pressure relief if you prefer sleeping on your back or stomach.

The Nolah Signature 12″ is a flippable mattress and it offers two firmness options in one. It sits at 4-5 on firmness scale (10 being the firmest), which is suitable for people who prefer softer mattresses. It is firm enough to provide support to the sleeper, but it is also soft to the touch and it hugs the contours of sleeper’s body. If you prefer a firmer mattress, then you can flip the mattress over and place the 1″ firm side upwards. This is ideal for stomach sleepers and back sleepers as it provides additional support and pressure relief.

Motion Isolation

If you share your bed with your partner, then motion isolation is something you should never overlook. Eventually, it doesn’t matter how comfortable a mattress is, if you’re interrupted by every movement of your partner. When they say Nolah AirFoam™ is better than memory foam, they really mean it. Just like traditional memory foam, the Nolah AirFoam™ is great at containing motion. You or your partner can sleep sound even when the other one is moving around in the bed. This is obviously ideal for couples who don’t want to get disturbed by every movement of their partner.

Edge Support

If you share your bed with your partner then you understand how useful it is to use full surface of the mattress. You obviously don’t want to roll out of the bed while changing positions. When you sleep towards the edges of this mattress, you will experience some compression which is normally expected from an all foam mattress. You might feel a little unstable towards the edges, but it will offer you enough support to lie down on the edges and change positions comfortably without rolling out of the bed.

For those of you who didn’t know already, Nolah has a campaign where it adopts a wildlife animal whenever a mattress is purchased. When you go to their site to place your order, you will be given an option for adopting a wildlife animal and if you select yes, you also get an option to choose which animal you would like to be adopted by Nolah. I think this is a great initiative towards our planet, and the best thing is that these mattresses are as affordable as it gets. The Nolah Original 10″ starts at just $549 and The Nolah Signature 12″ starts at $999. It’s definitely a value for money product if you consider the comfort, quality and luxury that Nolah offers with it’s products and we highly recommend it.
